Like all other climbing steps on the market, under less-than-ideal circumstances, the platform step is susceptible to hinging. But even if hinging should occur, the extra wide area contacting the strap maintains incredibly solid footing.
10 steps will get you nearly 18′ with an average stride and be plenty high enough in most areas with lower canopy.
Throw in a couple more steps and get over 20′ which is adequate even in open canopy for most hunters.
